Let’s be honest — the game reeled
us in with those ads showing soldiers sprinting, guns blazing, blasting through
addition and subtraction signs like it was a fast-paced reflex game. It looked
like something simple, something that would just test how quickly you could tap
your screen. That’s what I thought too.
But once I started, I quickly
realized those mini-challenges from the ads? They barely exist in the actual
game. In fact, they’re pretty much just there to get your attention. The real
game started the moment I finished the opening tutorial and suddenly found
myself managing… a city.
At first, I was just blindly
following the step-by-step instructions popping up after each task. Raise your
Capitol. Train troops. Increase your might. All simple, small steps. I didn’t
think much of it. The red flags were there, though — I just ignored them.
I missed the fact that the game
was quietly getting me hooked on building, upgrading, and growing stronger. The
quick action from the ads? That’s maybe 0.0000000005% of what Total Battle
is actually about. The real grind is in the strategy — the long game — and
somehow, I was already in too deep before I realized it.
Before I knew it, I was logging
in daily to check on my city and my hero — who seemed completely useless at
first but, well, they grew on me.
And here we are, 1 year and 10
months later…
